This piece was influenced by Irish music (the harmonic and melodic style) and African music (it uses African bell patterns and polyrhythms). It is an Irish-African jig, with a bit of blues influence in the middle unison section. Near the end of the piece, the players sing one of my Vocal Rhythm Etudes. This is from a series of twelve etudes that I have written for students to help develop their ability to read complex rhythms in various styles.
