Brook Green Suite
Beschrijving
Like many of his other ensemble works, Gustav Holst composed the "Brook Green Suite" for the St. Paul's Girls' School. His intent was to compose a piece that would be easy enough for the younger members of the school orchestra to play, as opposed to doing a transcription of or taking one of his existing pieces and making it simpler. Completed in 1933, the suite is not as "adventurous" as some of the other works he was composing at this time in his life, such as Hammersmith (for Orchestra or Wind Band). The suite consists of three charming movements (Prelude, Air, Dance), and a typical performance takes between 7-8 minutes.
