Il Primo Libro de Mottetti a Cinque et a Sei Voci
Beschrijving
After many travels throughout Europe, Lassus stayed in Antwerp from 1554 until the end of 1556, when he received an appointment at the Munich court. Johannus Laet took the risk of devoting an entire volume to the motets of Lassus, then still relatively unknown, and his edition marks an important moment in the history of the motet during the first half of the 16th century. Lassus dedicated the work to Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle, bishop of Arras and secretary of state of Charles V, to whom two compositions in this volume were also dedicated.
