Description

Making sight reading easier and more effective. A progressive set of imaginative pieces to take students and teachers step by step through the technique.

"Don't Look at the Keys!" shows students how to play by touch, to feel their way around the keyboard using as signposts - the long cracks between some white notes together with the groups of two and three black notes.

As music is essentially a listening experience it is almost instinctive for pianists to look down at the keyboard for visual reassurance to guide the fingers when playing. This is particularly true when playing from memory or improvising.

Why should I buy this book?

It is the only book to practise pieces and give instruction to play piano by touch. It is not another sight reading practice book of which there are many good ones already on the market.

How does it do this?

It instructs and develops the skill and confidence to look at the music instead of the hands and helps those many students who commit pieces to memory or play by ear, then wonder where to look while playing.

Book One is in two parts; hands separate and hands together, all pieces have both hands in a five finger position, each of which is illustrated at the top, together with the key (all keys are Grades 1 & 2 sight reading syllabus).

This is Book One of three books; pieces in Book Two are within an octave in both hands and Book Three beyond this range (the latter two are in preparation).

    This combination does not exist.
