Technique du Pouce
Description
This collection of exercises is designed to help students find the necessary reference points for tackling the thumb position, or to be precise, thumb positions. I suggest placing the fingers one after the other to begin with so that the hand will automatically adopt the correct position. With perseverance, the left hand will become strong and agile. Do not continue to play when tired, as a tense hand will never serve you well. Do not neglect your tone. This is produced with the bow. A rich tone will help consolidate your left hand technique. The exercises should be practised slowly and always played forte. Ask a pianist or another bass player to help you check for accuracy. Never work without reference points.
