Suite Française
Description
In the mid-30s Poulenc was commissioned to write the score for a play in two acts and thirteen scenes by Edouard Bourdet entitled Margot. It was first performed at the Paris Théâtre Marigny on 26 November 1935. Poulenc provided a chanson, À sa guitare, for one act, and Georges Auric was asked to write a second entitled Printemps for the other. Poulenc's remaining incidental music for this play, published separately under the title Suite française, is the source for the piano-violoncello version presented in this edition.
