The etudes were described as a pedagogical tool, exploring a broad variety of textures, techniques and harmony. Originally conceived as Book 1 (Nos. 1-10) and Book 2 (Nos. 11-20), this exclusive collection is the culmination of over two decades of private writing. Philip Glass recorded and released an album of his first ten Etudes in 2003, and this first publication of his Etudes coincides with the audio release of the complete set.
