Petite Suite
Description
Petite Suite has three movements. I wrote "Contrastes", the first one, for an anniversary. The beginning is peaceful, the second part becomes more animated, and the end is again calm, as if suspended in space. The two other movements, "Vocalise" and "Suspense" were commissioned, with support from the Suisa Foundation for Music, by the flautist, Ana Oltean, who premiered the work in 2009 in Bern (Switzerland) with pianist Simon Bucher. "Vocalise" reflects a rather melancholic mood, while "Suspense" is filled with unexpected developments.
