3 Sonatas - Vol.2
Description
The present edition Three Sonatas is based on a late 18th century autograph Mus. ms. Bach P 883 preserved in the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz, which contains works ascribed to Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. In his belief in the correctness of the designation of this source, in 1981 the editor undertook to present these rich compositions to the public. In the meantime, however, it has been established that the actual composer of these works is not the oldest son of Bach, but rather Johann Wilhelm Häßler (1747-1822), a piano virtuoso from Erfurt. The autograph Mus. ms. Bach P 883 represents a faithful copy of Häßler's collection of six Sonatas, which were published in Leipzig in 1776 together with a preceding Fantasy (RISM A/I H1657). The works of this collection has been published in two volumes (Carus 18.501/18.502).
